Zero Waste and Zero Waste Project

The world population has increased fivefold since 1900. With the increasing population, consumption has increased with each passing day due to the welfare level. Energy consumption per capita has tripled, and raw material use has doubled. This situation increased the pressure on natural resources and led to their depletion. With the lack of natural resources, climate changes have begun to occur. At the end of such a process that radically affects the world ecosystem, the continuity of the lives of all living things on the planet has been threatened.

According to a recent study by the World Bank, unless urgent action is taken, global waste will increase by 70% compared to its current level by 2050. Globally, there is rapid urbanization and an increasing population. The annual waste is expected to grow from approximately 2.01 billion tons to 3.4 billion tons in the next 30 years.

It is tried to prevent the depletion of natural resources with zero waste. A waste recovery process has been created in which waste is prevented with zero loss, resources are used efficiently, the causes and consequences of recycling and waste generation are examined, and the adverse effects are minimized. It is aimed to include waste in the recycling process. Thus, energy and resources have begun to be recovered. Otherwise, waste destruction without evaluation causes material and energy resource losses.

With this system, which was created about the efficient use of natural resources and the importance of recycling, an awareness study is carried out simultaneously. This process, in which the private sector is voluntarily involved, has also become a state policy. Zero waste implementation studies worldwide and our country have started to increase both in individual, institutional and urban activities. A system that is so important both individually and in the eyes of the states has become important day by day for companies' awareness and visibility activities.

What is being done with the Zero Waste Project?

With financial support, it was ensured that countries in need, which are in rapid growth, create waste management systems. To reduce the most harmful and non-destructive plastic waste, the use of plastic has begun to be reduced. For this, many awareness studies have started to be carried out. At the same time, many financial supports have been provided separately to countries producing large waste to reduce the seas becoming garbage. At the same time, consumer awareness campaigns were organized to encourage organic production and coordinate food use in society.
