Plastic pollution is one of the biggest problems threatening humanity and nature. Between 1950 and 2017, nearly 7 billion pounds of plastic turned into waste. With the increasing production of disposable plastics, the world has become unable to cope with this pollution.

As the plastic pollution crisis escalates, more and more dolphins, whales, birds, and fish are found dead with stomachs filled with plastic. It is estimated that 100,000 marine mammals die each year due to plastic pollution. The young whale stranded in 2019 died of "stomach shock" after swallowing 40 kilos of plastic bags.

Although it may not seem possible to deal with plastic pollution, it can be slowed down as much as possible. Solutions like plastic-eating enzymes, fungi, and magnetic coils could relieve the marine ecosystem. Waste tires can be converted into fuel. For example, the Netherlands converts waste tires into fuel by many methods.

World Environment Day, the most powerful and competent international day for the environment, is managed by the United Nations Environment Programme. As one of the largest global platforms for environmental aid, World Environment Day is celebrated by millions of people around the world. The platform hosted by Ivory Coast this year will focus on solutions for plastic pollution as part of the #BeatPlasticPollution campaign. The day, which aims to remind people that plastic pollution is the most important factor, will also shed light on the steps taken by governments and businesses to combat plastic pollution.
