WHAT IS Valuable 500?


Studies show that approximately 15% of the world's population comprises individuals with disabilities. Around 1 billion people worldwide have a disability. For this reason, it is characterized as the "largest minority" group in the world. Due to their disabilities, the way individuals interact with the world is greatly affected. Many studies are carried out to minimize a situation that affects the life of disabled people in such a way. Studies and policies are usually carried out to remove prejudices and raise awareness.


It was established in the United States against the disabled with the Valuable 500. It was established to prevent prejudices and increase the employment rate. Valuable 500 is the first and only organization that works to enable disabled people to participate in business life and is so accepted. It covers 500 companies in 36 different countries. It is an organization with large-scale companies such as Google or Sony, which undoubtedly impact life and worldwide. At the same time, it is a collaborative platform where companies work together to radically and immediately change the perspective of ordinary people with disabilities in society. System change is desired to be directed together with the leaders of the companies.


With the Valuable 500, workplaces are also accessible. As an organization established to remove the disadvantageous situation between disabled and non-disabled individuals, they removed the obstacles created by the workplaces. The fact that disabled people do not receive a qualified education due to the difficulties they experience in their education and training life prevents them from entering the business life. With the Valuable 500, the disabled people they live with while obtaining a profession and those who have moved away from business life are both motivated and provided with a profession.


What is the Valuable 500 Transformation Program, and What Does It Predict?


A Transformation Program is envisaged to make disabled people more active in business life and that businesses include them. They have organized a program that will allow companies to gain economic benefits in business life by participating disabled people in their teams. They wanted company leaders to be the pioneers of the relevant program. Six common goals have been identified with the program. 500 CEOs (General Managers) decided to follow a typical process to ensure the realization of these six topics and encourage companies to do so.

Valuable 500 is based on the United Nations Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities. The United Nations Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities was adopted on 13 December 2006. Turkey and many other countries have become parties to the Convention. The contract ensured that the interaction areas of the disabled were increased, and they had similar conditions with the society. The Convention aims to ensure that governments, individuals, and organizations enjoy the same human rights and fundamental freedoms as all other persons. It is aimed to change the social attitudes towards the disabled. Valuable 500 has ensured that not only countries but also private companies, as a party to the Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities, take responsibility in this situation to create working conditions following international policies.
