Eco-design is one of the essential factors affecting corporate reputation. It is a space that allows companies to showcase their commitments and practices regarding environmental sustainability. ESG scores will increase, and a positive image will be formed in the eyes of customers and stakeholders. In social terms, they will create a positive impression because they have a responsible understanding.
ESPR is a regulation put into effect by the European Union. It was created to reduce the environmental impact of products in the countries that are members of the European Union and to increase energy efficiency. The regulation, which entered into force in 2005, has been renewed many times. ESPR covers a variety of product categories. It affects the design of products in many different areas, especially white goods, lighting products, heating and cooling systems, computers and office equipment, water heaters, pump systems, and consumer electronics. Specific requirements and standards have been set to improve the environmental performance of products manufactured in these areas.
The primary purpose of ESPR is to produce environmentally friendly products that prevent energy waste, reduce greenhouse gas emissions and enable efficient resource use. It guides creating of products that are right for the entire production cycle. With ESPR, an approach that covers the whole production cycle of the products has been adopted. This approach ranges from the design of products to use and waste management. There are solutions in many areas, such as recycling, waste management, and reuse. It also introduced an obligation for companies to document the environmental impact of their products and make corresponding declarations of conformity. Therefore, products produced in Turkey and entering the European Union market must meet specific standards and reduce environmental impacts. To deliver products suitable for eco-design, companies must carry out many R&D studies. Therefore, eco-design encourages companies to invest in R&D and be innovative. With the R&D process, companies will be able to gain a competitive advantage and have the chance to be a pioneer in the market.
As a result, they will demonstrate that businesses fulfill their environmental responsibilities with ESPR. They will use natural resources more efficiently, reduce energy consumption and minimize the ecological impacts of the production process.
