WHAT ARE THE LEED CERTIFICATE CRITERIA?

What is LEED Certification?


It was enacted in 1998 by the US Green Building Council. Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design Certificate is the largest, most comprehensive, and most preferred among other green building certificates and programs.


What are the LEED Certification Levels?


Points are earned by adhering to prerequisites and credits that address carbon, energy, water, waste, transportation, material, health, and indoor environmental quality for a construction project to achieve LEED certification. The project is then evaluated by GBCI and goes through the review process. Green Business Certification Inc., called GBCI. It is an American organization that provides various ratings and verification related to a third-party environment. Points are awarded corresponding to the LEED certification level. 40 to 49 points to be Certified, 50 to 59 points to be Silver, 60 to 79 points to be Gold, or 80 to 80 points to be Platinum.


How is LEED Certification Scored?


LEED's scoring system consists of a total of 110 points. These scores are given in 6 main categories. Water efficiency (11 points), location and transportation infrastructure (16 points), sustainable sites (10 points), material and building resources (13 points), energy consumption and damage to the atmosphere (33 points), indoor quality (16), innovative structure (6 points), regional priority (4 points) and protection of human health (1 point).


Which Applications Are Considered With LEED Certification?


Reducing the water used and the energy use associated with its processing and distribution is crucial. Greenhouse gas emissions should be decreased as feasible by adopting alternate water sources and avoiding wasteful usage of potable water resources.


Simultaneously, new construction land-use models should be developed. Residents, for example, are permitted to utilize public transportation. As a result, single-person car greenhouse gas emissions will be lowered.


Green infrastructure seeks to reduce non-energy factors of climate change, including building layout and land-use changes, heat island effect, and pollution. Thus, it is aimed to organize the intervention to the nature around the building in a way that will cause minimal damage. It is aimed to recycle and reuse the wastes during the production, transportation, manufacture, distribution, and disposal of materials and products used throughout the entire life cycle of the building and during the construction process.


In addition, the energy to be used by the building will be saved, greenhouse gas emissions will be reduced, and sustainable and renewable energy sources will be used.


Finally, buildings that increase air quality, reduce carcinogenic rates by using renewable materials, and provide thermal, visual, acoustic, lighting comfort, daylight, and scenery for building occupants or users get more points.
